Marketplace from NPR invited Thomas Hayden on to discuss a blog post he did on "crap tech" (The Market place segment aired back in early December). As an avid user of "crap" mp3 players like my Sansa clip, I thought it was great. Hayden provides some excellent points as to why a $20 MP3 player is superior to a $400 media device. Crap tech lets you avoid feature creep and the need to continuously buy the newest version of something. If you drop it or lose it, no worry, you can do that 20 times over before breaking even.
